Many visitors to San Diego expect to be on the beach, when it is actually surrounded by the harbor. The nearest beaches are Coronado over the bridge or across the harbor with the ferry, or at the end of Highway 8 over to Ocean beach.

The beaches can be grouped into 4 geogrpahic areas-

Between Imperial Beach and the 'island' of Coronado is the peninsular beach of Silver Strand. With sandy beaches on both the Pacific Ocean side and the San Diego harbor

Bordered by Highway '5', the San Diego River and Mission Beach, Mission Bay has much to offer!
